The Sport Administration program at Ģý prepares you for success in the fast-paced sport industry through a dynamic, career-focused curriculum. Whether you pursue a major or minor, you’ll gain hands-on experience while learning from expert faculty and experienced sport professionals who are invested in your success. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in the region’s largest student-led one-day sport symposium, connecting with industry leaders and expanding your professional network.

Learning extends beyond the classroom through internships, mentoring, May Term travel courses, and involvement in student organizations. These experiences help you apply your knowledge, develop leadership and communication skills, and build a strong résumé.

Great internship experiences

Ģý students gain hands-on experience through internships with some of the region’s top sports organizations, including the Iowa Cubs, Iowa Wild, Iowa Wolves, Sporting KC, and the Principal Charity Golf Classic. Many of these opportunities have led directly to full-time careers.

As a member of the Health & Exercise Science Club, you can attend professional meetings of organizations in your specific field. Conference attendance has included travel within Iowa and across the country. Recent conferences were held in Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

Hands-on experience is at the heart of this program. Students complete two required internships, gaining real-world experience with organizations such as the Iowa Cubs, Iowa Wild, local school districts, parks and recreation departments, community nonprofits, and other sport and recreation organizations. These opportunities help students build professional skills, expand their networks, and graduate with the practical experience employers value.

May Term courses take learning beyond the classroom through immersive travel experiences. Students visit sport and recreation organizations, tour professional facilities, meet with industry leaders, and attend sporting events. Each course is designed to provide firsthand insight into the industry while helping students build professional connections and explore a variety of career opportunities.
